Animal Healthcare and Veterinary Phytotherapy

The GA-networking group on Medicinal Plants and Natural Products in Animal Healthcare and Veterinary Medicine is invited to organize again a one-day Pre-Congress Symposium. To bring together practitioners, scientists, students and industry in our field is the idea of our networking group and in particular of the symposium.

After just a year of break, we have the great chance to meet in the central part of Europe this time.
As usual the Symposium will cover following themes:
- animal self-medication
- ethnoveterinary medicine
- veterinary pharmacology of medicinal plants
- science and practice of veterinary phytotherapy
- clinical, in vivo and in vitro research with medicinal plants or natural products for animals
- feed additives and animal health care products based on plants rich in phytochemicals

The program will include keynote lectures, invited short lectures, as well as contributed short lectures. The animal related contributions of the main congress will be presented as posters during the Pre-Congress Symposium. An international industrial exhibition with companies presenting herbal feed additives, veterinary drugs and phytogenic health care products for animals will be held. A broad professional, scientific and personal exchange will be possible during the breaks.

Please note: The registration for the Animal Healthcare and Veterinary Phytotherapy - Vet Symposium is combined with the main types of participation in the Registration profile.
In order to register for the Vet Symposium, this option must be selected when selecting the type of participation.

Type of participation containing registrations for  the Animal Healthcare and Veterinary Phytotherapy - Vet Symposium:

African Research Network (HYBRID)

The 5th edition of the African Research Workshop will take place in Kraków, Poland on 13th July 2024, prior to the International Congress on Natural Products Research 72nd International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA).

The workshop will be organized in hybrid mode and can be attended in person or online.

What to expect:
The workshop is a unique opportunity to exchange scientific findings about natural products research conducted on Traditional African Medicine.

African researchers can present their research findings in short talks during the on-site event and discuss the findings with colleagues and peers. See instructions on how to submit an abstract to present your research below.

A Keynote Lecture is presented by Prof. David Katerere (Tshwane University of Technology, Dept of Pharmaceutical Science, South Africa). His lecture will focus on “African herbal medicines – opportunities and challenges of developing herbal medicinal products in Africa”.

Attend in person at the congress venue or remotely online:
The workshop will be streamed live and can be attended online via zoom (registration Link) or in person at the congress site (registration link). If you wish to present a short talk online, please indicate this in the remarks section during abstract submission. You are then required to submit a pre-recorded video of your short lecture (max. 10 min) until July 05, 2024 (instruction will follow to selected presenters).

How to submit an abstract –> abstract submission for this workshop is still open! until June 15, 2024
Please submit your abstract for a short talk via the general abstract submission portal (LINK!). Research topics should focus on Traditional African Medicine in the areas:

Contributions should focus on natural products research of Traditional African Medicine in the areas:
•    Ethnopharmacology
•    Clinical research
•    Pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms
•    Phytochemistry

Contributions reporting clinical research conducted on African natural products are especially welcome!

Please note: The abstracts submitted to the African Research Workshop will not be part of the general abstract evaluation (posters or oral presentation) for the main conference and thus not be published in the Phytochemistry Letters Special Conference Issue.

Cultivating Safety: Toxicology 101 for Botanicals and Natural Products

Botanical Safety Consortium
This course will offer a deep dive into the world of botanical safety, bridging the gap
between their traditional uses and modern applications in supplements, medicines, and
cosmetics. Instructors are global experts in the field of toxicology, botanical safety, and

The interactive course will cover fundamental topics in toxicology relevant for botanicals,

  • Routes of botanical exposure
  • Botanical-drug interactions
  • Dose response
  • Acute and chronic toxicity methods and approaches
  • Relevant health endpoints

The course will culminate in several interactive small group case studies focused on real-
world challenges within the botanical safety space that will allow participants to directly
apply the knowledge from the course.

Early Career Researchers

What is the aim of the workshop?
The Early Carrier Researchers’ Workshop (ECRW) offers the unique opportunity to present your data as a short talk (10+5 min) in a free and relaxed atmosphere. Special emphasis is laid on an intense discussion between all participants.
When does the ECRW take place?
The workshop is held on Saturday, 13 July 2024 as a pre-symposium of the International Congress on Natural Products Research Krakow, Poland. It will start at 9:00 a.m. for approximately 6 hours.
Who can submit an abstract?
Ph.D. students and early-stage post-docs (only within their first year) are invited to submit an abstract for a short talk. Only high-quality abstracts can be considered. The ECRW jury will review the abstracts and decide on whether a short talk will be granted or not.
What happens during the ECRW?
After a welcome note, the ECRW will start with an impulse lecture* by a young but established scientist who will give insights into his/her area of research. He or she will also highlight who to step into and advance a scientific career. The main part of the workshop will be dedicated to short lectures. The ECRW jury will select the two best presentations and will bestow the prizes to the two awardees in the ECRW closing session.
What do the prizes include?
The two most outstanding presentations will receive awards in two categories and a cash prize.
